ETHICS: RAIN FOREST MATTERS

ETHICS: RAIN FOREST MATTERS

You are an engineer responsible for analysing and recommending funding for foreign aid projects.

You receive an application for funding for a housing development project in South East Asia. The houses are well designed and inexpensive to build but use endangered rain forest timber as its main building material.

In response to your questions, the designer tells you she is aware that the timber is endangered but that it is plentiful in the local area and is cheap to harvest and transport.

Alternative materials are available but are more expensive, and less durable.

It is proposed that the project receives aid funding
