ETHICS: WAKE IN FRIGHT!

ETHICS: WAKE IN FRIGHT!

A local community has a transport system based around the use of diesel powered boats on their canal system. You have designed a much more efficient diesel powered boat that derives its efficiency from its hull design. This efficiency also significantly reduces the cost of the transport system.

You have sold these boats to the community and are delivering them into service. It becomes apparent that this hull design generates a wake pattern that increases erosion of the canal banks. Many houses are located on these banks.

A design modification is possible to eliminate the erosion impacts, but will increase the operating costs of the vessels. In addition, the costs of retrofitting the boats will be against your business.

It is proposed that you do not retrofit the boats.
