THE FLUORIDATION DEBATE

THE FLUORIDATION DEBATE

Fluoride is the 13th most naturally abundant mineral on earth. It is naturally present in all water supplies and is heavily mined as well. Though it is present in domestic water sources, governments in the United States and in many other places throughout the world began adding Fluoride to water supplies in order to improve dental health. This means that anyone who drinks water or consumes anything made with water in an area of the world where fluoride is added will be imbibing fluoride every day whether they want to or not.

Many question this practice on a number of grounds from whether or not there are scientific or health advantages to the morality of public officials not allowing the public to choose what goes into their own bodies.

On the other hand, many public health experts are in favour of fluoridation, pointing to evidence and predictions of significant improvements in populations' dental health.

Read the background materials and links - then do your best to make up your own mind. Is fluoridation in everyone's best interests, or is it a breach of human rights?
